Blogs-only newspaper
by: Romany
27 November 2009Blogs are the way forward, with everyone from escorts to politicians jumping on the bandwagon. To reflect this trend, a new London freesheet has been launched which contains blog-only content.
The sad demise of MediaWeek and London Lite has opened up this opportunity for the Blogpaper, a new angle on traditional publishing.
The content is from blogs, and there is no editor to collate the material. Instead, it is up to the bloggers to choose the content. They submit stories and photos to the Blogpaper site and each entry is voted upon by the contributors. The lack of editor means that the bloggers themselves are responsible for the content, a concept which co-founder Karl Jo Seilern, is a novel idea.
"The idea allows for the readers to determine what they would most like to read and for them to monitor the quality of the articles. If the articles are not up to par, they are not voted for by the masses; it's that simple."
The Blogpaper appeared on the London Underground on 20 November and is planned to be a monthly publication. Although at present it is a free paper and contains no advertisements, success in the future may lead to revenue ideas being incorporated. By the way, bloggers do not get paid!
